Sonos and Ikea announced their partnership forever ago, or so it seems, and we now finally have a product to talk about. Meet Symfonisk. It’s a Sonos-powered speaker that will be officially unveiled on April 9 and then become available sometime this August.

The Symfonisk is a bookshelf speaker that’s unique because it can stand upright on its own, like a traditional speaker, or it can be sideways mounted on a wall; Sonos’s press imagery shows the speaker doubling as small shelf or nightstand of sorts, with various objects resting on it. The yet-to-be-released speaker has already won a 2019 RED Dot award for its product design.

Ikea’s modus operandi has always been affordability, so even though we don’t yet know how much the Symfonisk speaker will cost, we can speculate that it’ll probably be in the sub-$200 bracket, which is in-line with Sonos’s current Play:1 ($149) and One ($179+) speakers. We also don’t know if the Symfonisk will support TruePlay, Sonos’s special speaker tuning technology; we’re guessing it will, as Sonos just recently announced its partnership with Sonance would yield the first third-party speakers to support TruePlay.

We’ll have more information when Sonos and IKEA officially announce the Symfonisk speaker.
