ToshibaThere are cutting edge TVs, and then there’s Toshiba’s Regza 55X3 (known as the ZL2 in Europe) whose spec sheet reads like it was DeLorean-ed back from 2015. The 55-inch set is one of the first consumer TVs to sport a 4096 x 2160 pixel resolution (or Quad Full High Definition), which already gives it boat loads of bragging rights, — even if 4k content for consumers is currently rarer than a Patek Philippe Calibre 89. Heaping on that pile is its glasses-free, stereoscopic 3D playback which utilizes CEVO Engine processing and advanced face-tracking technology to adjust the set’s nine-parallax viewing positions to match the position of seated viewers. The 55X3’s Achilles’ heel, however, is that 3D content can only be displayed in 720p, but it’s a sacrifice we’d personally be willing to make to ditch the rec-specs of our current set. We’re also slightly disappointed that for now, the TV will only be available in Japan starting December 10th. Then again, even if a North American ship date is announced, the predicted $10,000+ price tag isn’t the easiest thing to justify — unless you fine readers feel like mailing us some scratch-offs.
