Sony’s reliably epic haul at CES continues this year with two massive new televisions, the 98-inch and 85-inch 8K Z9G LCD, as well as with the comparatively modest 77-inch 4K unit, the A9G. Both the Z9G and the A9G fit in the brand’s Master Series lineup, which signifies their extreme top-end models.
The 8K, Z9G’s key trick is its four-speaker Sound-From-Picture Reality feature, which makes the dialogue appear as though it’s coming from the actors’ mouths rather than the bottom or sides of the screen, with the same being true of other audio, such as explosions and vehicle movement. The 4K model, the A9G, comes in 77-, 65-, and 55-inch sizes and uses a pixel contrast booster to optimize the color performance in bright images, with much higher fidelity to reality or the director’s intent.
Both units use Sony’s Android-based interface for app integration, including key streaming channels and built-in Google Assistant. The built-in mics mean that viewers can simply talk to their television through Google Assistant to find what they want to watch. Also, as is true with the newest TVs by Vizio, Samsung and LG, Sony’s new TVs will be compatible with Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit.
Pricing and availability will be announced in the spring – hopefully in time for the final season of Game of Thrones.
