Catalyst is a third-party manufacturer of rugged, waterproof cases for all your favorite Apple gadgets: iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches. The company makes other stuff, of course – everything from backpacks and screen protectors – but accessorizing Apple gadgets is really its bread and butter. And Apple knows this. The Cupertino goliath just teamed up with Catalyst to sell the Catalyst Case for AirPods in the Apple Store, making it the first waterproof case for AirPods that Apple actually endorses.
This case, which admittedly has been around for a while, is made of soft-yet-durable silicone that slips over your current AirPods case and protects it from the elements, yet it allows you to easily open the case to remove your AirPods. It has an IP67 waterproof rating and it can protect your case from drops up to four feet. I’ve rarely had the need to protect my AirPods from rain, but drops? Yeah, I drop my AirPods case all the time and it now has all sorts or dings in it. So this case would guard against that. Also, you can still charge the AirPods without having to take off the case, which is convenient.
The case is available now on Apple’s website for $30. It comes in three different colors — white, black and ‘glow in the dark’ — and is also has an aluminum carabiner attached, so you can clip it on to whatever you like, be it a backpack or a belt loop.
