A wall clock is admittedly an outdated piece of tech, but it’s still nice to have in the home, both as a piece of wall decor and as a quick and easy way to glance the time. Amazon, though, thinks it can give the tried-and-true analog wall clock an update, in the form of the Echo Clock, which will connect to Alexa to extend its functionality beyond just the time.
Timers and alarms are simple but undoubtedly useful Alexa functions, and now the new Echo Clock will allow you to make those voice commands and display them on your wall and will synch to your existing Echo device via Bluetooth. The progress of your timer is shown via a series of LED lights circling the outside of the clock face. What’s more, the clock will be able to automatically adjust for Daylight Savings, eliminating the need to reset it twice a year, arguably the one downside of owning a wall clock.
As far as Amazon’s new suite of devices goes, the Echo Wall Clock’s functions are somewhat narrow, but especially for busy families who cook, the clock can make a lot of sense, freeing up precious counter space and allowing you to set timers without taking your hands off your work. What’s more, it also has a nice, minimalist look to it, and for an MSRP of $30 when it goes on sale later this year, it’s not a particularly expensive extension of Alexa’s abilities.
