StandBy mode is a feature — rolled out with iOS 17 — that effectively turns your iPhone into a smart display, smart alarm clock or digital picture frame when charging and positioned horizontally. You can initiate StandBy mode by connecting your iPhone to power — via a wired or wireless connection — and orienting it sideways. It’s that simple.

The best way to experience StandBy mode is with a wireless charging stand. This both elevates and charges your iPhone. If you have a wireless charging stand that supports MagSafe, it can charge your iPhone at its fastest wireless charging speeds (up to 15 watts).

The other advantage of MagSafe is that you can set different StandBy mode backgrounds for each MagSafe wireless charging stand. Nomad’s Stand One is one of the more expensive MagSafe charging stands out there. It has a premium look and feel, made of metal and glass, and it’s also pretty hefty; it weighs nearly 1.5 pounds and thus doesn’t lift off your desk every time you go to pick up your iPhone.

It fully supports MagSafe andcan thus fast charge your iPhone at up to 15 watts. The catch is that you need to buy a 20-watt USB-C adapter separately because Nomad doesn’t include one in the box, even though it’s expensive.

The Stand One is available in two colors: carbine (black) or silver.

Released in late 2023, Belkin’s 2-in-1 charging stand is another pricey yet premium option. It fully supports MagSafe and can fast charge your iPhone at up to 15 watts, but it also can simultaneously fast charge your Apple Watch.

It has a pretty neat and highly adjustable design, so you can switch up their viewing angles when in StandBy mode. And it comes with a 30-watt USB-C adapter in the box.

The Belkin BoostCharge Pro 2-in-1 Dock with MagSafe is available in two colors: charcoal or sand.

The defining feature of Belkin’s MagSafe charger is its integrated kickstand. It’s essentially Apple’s default MagSafe Charger, but the kickstand allows you to elevate and reorientate your iPhone so that it supports StandBy mode.

It’s available in a few different colors (white or black) and you can purchase it with or without the necessary USB-C wall adapter for fast charging.
