In the past few years, we’ve come to know Fluance pretty well for its entry-level turntables; if you’re looking to spend $300 or less, Fluance’s RT82 ($300) and RT81 ($250) are some of the best record players you’re going to find. Now, the Canadian audio company has released a new, affordable pair of bookshelf speakers — the Ai60 — to pair with its turntables.
The Fluance Ai60 are powered bookshelf speakers, meaning that they don’t require additional amplification or components because each speaker has a 100-watt class D amplifier built directly into it; you can hook them straight into your turntable, CD player, stereo or AV receiver, or even your new 4K TV (via optical), and they’ll just work. Basically, it simplifies the setup process. There’s also a subwoofer output in case you want to add additional bass. And the speakers support Bluetooth aptX, too, so you can stream audio straight from your smartphone or tablet if you like.
Each Ai60 speaker has a beautiful wood cabinet, and two distinct drivers: a silk soft-dome tweeter and a 6.5-inch woven, glass fiber woofer. I kind of wish that the “Fluance” logo was a little less pronounced, but I guess beggars can’t be choosers. The speaker pair costs $299 and is available in four colors: black, walnut, white walnut or bamboo.
