The AirPods Max are one of the best and most popular noise-canceling headphones out there. They’re the only over-ear headphones that Apple makes and are integrated with many of the same technologies as its other AirPods. They can fast pair to your iPhone. They can detect if they’re on/off your ears and automatically play/pause your music. They support spatial audio and Dolby Atmos, so they sound really immersive. And they charge via a Lightning cable, just like your iPhone.

The AirPods Max also have a look and feel that’s very unique — there’s really nothing else like them. They also are a little quirky in that they don’t come with a protective case and they don’t have a traditional power button to turn them on/off. Instead, they enter various low-power modes when they’re not on your head; the deepest lower-power mode (which turns off Bluetooth and Find My) is when they are housed in the Smart Case that Apple ships them with.
Surprisingly, Apple doesn’t sell many accessories for its AirPods Max. In fact, you can’t even buy an extra Smart Case from them in the event that you lose or misplace yours. When you order a pair of AirPods Max, Apple doesn’t give you any options to customize them (other than to engrave them with your name, emoji or both). What you can do, however, is to buy different color ear cushions for them. Apple sells them in the same five colors that it sells the AirPods Max in – blue, green, gray, pink and silver — and you mix and match the color of your ear cushions with your AirPods. It’s a neat way to make your AirPods Max look like no other ones out there.
