The newly announced Sennheiser HD 660 S headphones ($500) are the successor to the company’s 14-year-old, beloved Sennheiser HD 650. The new model shares a similar look and open-back design, but its improved internals promise to make them sound even better. Specifically, the new models have a newly designed transducer that’s able to deliver lower harmonic distortion and more audio. The impedance has also been lowered to 150 Ohms, so you’ll still want to pair them with a dedicated headphone amp or a portable hi-fi player. (Although, according to The Verge, Sennheiser claims you’ll still be able to use them with your smartphone’s headphone jack.) You’ll be able to buy the Sennheiser HD 660 S later in mid-October.
