When Apple announced its Apple TV 4K last week, one of the main criticisms was the price. The $179 streaming box was basically a much more expensive version of devices like the Roku Premiere+ ($89) or Google Chromecast Ultra ($69). Today, Apple has another inexpensive competitor: Amazon’s new $70 Fire TV.
The new Fire TV, which Amazon announced alongside a string of new Alexa-enabled devices, supports 4K HDR video — that’s 2160p resolution at 60 fps. Previously, the highest-end Amazon Fire TV supported 4K, but not HDR. Additionally, the new Fire TV supports Dolby Atmos.
Amazon’s new Fire TV costs $70 and is available for preorder now. It’s expected drop officially on October 25. A bundle including the Fire TV and an Echo Dot is also available for $80, along with a Fire TV Stick and Echo Dot bundle for $60.
