If you own (and love) McIntosh’s MXA80 integrated audio system, your CD player has arrived. Earlier today, McIntosh announced the MCT80 SACD/CD Transport, the latest modular device that’s meant to seamlessly work with the MXA80, as well as the company’s other lifestyle components: the MB50 streaming audio player, MP100 phono stage and MHA150 headphone amplifier. (They’re all designed thin so they can be stacked on top of each other.)
The MCT80 supports all disk types, including CD, SACD and CD-R/RW playback, as well as user-generated discs that have been formatted with WAV (up to 24bit/192kHz), DSD (up to DSD128) and FLAC files. According to the company, the MXA80 is able to read the CDs audio “at twice the normal rate ensuring better disc tracking and error correction processing.” The MCT80 also boasts coaxial and optical outputs that can support CD audio formats up to 24-bit/192kHz. Basically, it’s a really high-end, accurate CD player that will look phenomenal with your home’s current McIntosh system.
According to What Hi-Fi?, you can expect the MCT80 to cost roughly $5,800 and ship to the U.S. this September.
