Vizio has updated its 2017 P-Series and M-Series TVs with a new smart TV interface called SmartCast TV. Previously, with built-in Chromecast, these TVs needed a remote with a screen to change channels and navigate apps, or you could control them vocally using Google Assistant on your smartphone or Google Home. With the new update, you’ll be able to control all 2017 P-Series and M-Series TVs via SmartCast TV or through the Chromecast-enabled SmartCast app on your smartphone.
Basically, you’ll be able to use a remote without a screen, like in olden times, to search apps on the TV as well as adjust TV settings like brightness. There’s also a new SmartCast TV remote to control TV apps. According to Vizio, “owners of eligible models can receive the new Vizio SmartCast remote either free or for a nominal fee.” This offer is available for a limited time and while supplies last.
Your 2017 P-Series and M-Series TV should automatically update without you having to do anything. If you’re worried about this affecting the way you currently watch TV, Vizio ensures that it won’t; it just gives you another option. The SmartCast update should be available for Vizio’s 2017 E-Series TVs later this summer.
