Like Aston Martin and Land Rover to autos, the British are renowned for their high-end hi-fi markers. Meridian, a stalwart brand whose wares are normally relegated for obliteration of year-end bonuses has created a stunning desktop system by combining their fantastic Audio Core 200 ($3,000) and DSP3200 ($6,000) digital active loudspeakers. A cool 9 grand is not what we’d call a casual purchase but corporate climbers seeking out a definitive home/office system that demonstrates an equivalent knowledge of product design, value and derivation need look no further. The sleek Audio Core 200 preamp hub works with a variety of digital and analog audio components (an iPod/iPhone dock is included) including Meridian’s own Sooloos media servers. With 96-kHz playback, the Audio Core is perfectly mated with the DSP3200 loudspeakers, which center around a 75 watt built-in amplifier and two drivers (6.5″ and 3.5″) in each speaker — producing voluminous sound and a wide frequency range of 45 hz to 20 kHz. In union, the system’s simple yet exquisite design make them an incredible acquisition to any lucky owner.
