At WWDC 2017 two weeks ago, Apple announced the iMac Pro, the company’s most powerful computer ever; the HomePod, its first smart speaker; a 10.5-inch near bezel-less iPad Pro; and a bunch of iOS 11 updates coming this fall. However, what we were most excited about was the product that appeared on Apple’s website with zero fanfare: a wireless keyboard with a number pad.
Being suckers for well-designed wireless keyboards (yeah, that’s a thing), we wanted to also give Microsoft a hat tip for their new, minimalist-ly titled, Modern Keyboard. It costs exactly the same as Apple’s new keyboard ($130) and looks pretty identical to Microsoft’s Surface Keyboard. The main difference, however, is that the Modern Keyboard is decked out with a hidden fingerprint reader (located between the Alt and Ctrl keys, ssshh!) for extra security.
You’ll be able to use the keyboard with any Windows 10 or MacOS devices. It can also function as a wired keyboard (which the Surface Keyboard cannot). The Modern Keyboard is coming soon, according to Microsoft, but if you’re not keen on the new fingerprint ID reader you can still buy the Surface Keyboard for $100.
