HP announced significant updates to its 2-in-1 tablet, the Spectre x2, and its premium lightweight laptop, the Envy 13, giving consumers more reason to switch over from their Apple and Microsoft devices.
The improved Envy 13 is a direct Macbook Air competitor. It has an impressive 14 hours of battery life (two hours more than the Air) and fast-charging technology that HP claims will charge the battery to 90 percent in 90 minutes. The base model also comes with a 1080p display, 8GB of RAM, a Core-i5 Kaby Lake Intel processor and 128GB SSD for only $850 ($100 less than Apple’s Macbook Air).
The second-generation Spectre x2 is HP’s competitor to Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4: with all the standard 2-in-1 tablet features: a detachable keyboard, pen and (stainless steel!) kickstand. Weighing just 1.8 pounds, the updated x2 has an improved display (3000 x 2000 resolution versus the old x2’s 1920 x 1280), a faster processor, and two USB-C ports. The updated Spectre x2 also supports Windows Ink, so you can use the stylus to write notes or doodle at will.
Both the Envy 13 and the Spectre x2 will ship with improved Bang & Olufson speakers. Both will be available in June and starting at $1,000. Also, the x2 tablet will be available in a gold model.
