Amazon Just Completely Redesigned its Echo Speakers (Plus, All Amazon’s Other New Products)

At Amazon’s big hardware event, the company announced several new Echo and Fire TV devices. In addition to giving them new looks and capabilities, Amazon also announced that all its new Echo and Fire TV devices are more eco-friendly, made 100% post-consumer recycled fabric and 100% recycled die-cast aluminum. Additionally, Amazon also announced an all-new cloud gaming service and an indoor drone — yes, you read that correctly.

We’ve rounded up all the noteworthy hardware announcements from Amazon’s big event. Here’s what you need to know.

A completely redesigned Echo

Amazon announced a new Echo smart speaker with a spherical design. It essentially combines the Echo and Echo Plus speakers. It supports Dolby stereo sound and has a built-in smart home hub. It costs $100 and is available in three different colors: charcoal, chalk and steel blue.

A new Echo Dot & Echo Dot with clock

Amazon gave its smaller smart speakers, the Echo Dot and the Echo Dot with clock, the same spherical design and fabric finishes as the Echo. Each speaker has a single 1.6-inch, front-firing driver. The Echo Dot will be available in three colors (charcoal, glacier white and twilight blue) and the Echo Dot with clock will be available in two (glacier white and twilight blue). The Echo Dot will cost $50, while the Echo Dot with clock costs an extra $10. Both are available for pre-order today and will ship later this year.

A new Echo Show with a screen that moves

Amazon announced the Echo Show 10, which is brand-new Echo Show that has a 10-inch screen that “moves with you.” The Echo Show 10 has “intelligent movement” so when you ask Alexa something, the screen will turn to face you. This is designed to be helpful when you’re moving around the kitchen while video chatting with a friend or following a cooking recipe. The Echo Show has a built-in smart home hub, too.

Amazon made indoor flying drone — yes, it flies.

The Ring Always Home Cam is, according to Amazon, “a small, autonomous indoor camera” — to us, it’s a drone. It will automatically fly to predetermined areas of your home, therefore giving you multiple viewpoints and the ability to better keep an eye on your home with just one camera. Amazon claims that it will only record video when it’s flying, as when it’s docked the camera is blocked. The Ring Always Home Cam will be $249.

New mesh routers that support Wi-Fi 6

Amazon announced next-gen versions of its mesh router systems. The main thing is that eero 6 and the eero Pro 6 both support Wi-Fi 6, which will help them reach faster and more reliable internet speeds. The eero 6 is available today starting at $129, while the eero Pro 6 is also available for preorder today and starts at $229.

Two new Fire TV streaming sticks.

Amazon announced two next-generation streaming sticks. There’s the Fire TV Stick, which is supports HDR and Dolby Atmos, and is able to stream full-HD content. It also includes an Alexa remote with dedicated volume, power and mute buttons. It will start shipping later this month and costs $40. Secondly, the Fire TV Stick Lite is basically the same thing but does not support Dolby Atmos. It will start shipping later this month for $30.

Luna is Amazon’s all-new cloud gaming service

That’s right. Amazon is getting into gaming. Luna is Amazon’s all-new cloud gaming service that give subscribers to Luna Plus access to more than 100 games. It will be available on Fire TVs, computers (both PC and Mac), iPhones, iPads and Androids (although Android will roll out after launch). It will cost $6/month. There will also be $50 controller that you can buy, called the Luna controller (picture). Amazon has yet to announce a release date for Luna.
