Apple just announced a new iPad Air and it has a pretty radical redesign. In fact, it looks very similar to the iPad Pro. The new iPad Air will be available in five colors: silver, space gray, rose gold, green and sky blue. It will start at $599 and you’ll be able to buy starting in October.
The new iPad Air has a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display with True Tone and an anti-reflective coating. It has a new powerful A14 Bionic chip and TouchID that’s integrated into the top power button. Gone are the think top, bottom and side bezels, as well as the Home button, that defined the previous iPad Air.
AppleAside from the new look, the new iPad Air is a big performance upgrade from the previous generation model. The new iPad Air’s A14 Bionic chip will give it improved graphics and a 40-percent boost in performance over the previous iPad Air, according to Apple.
Like the iPad Pro, the new iPad Air is ditching the Lightning port in favor of the fast-charging power of USB-C. It will support up to 20-watts of power. The new iPad Air has the same rear camera system as the iPad Pro. It will also support many of the same accessories as the iPad Pro, like the Apple Pencil ($129) and the Magic Keyboard ($299) that Apple released this past spring.
In other iPad news, Apple also announced an updated model of its entry-level 10.2-inch iPad. The updated model will have a more powerful A12 processor, and will still cost $329.
