At today’s big hardware event, Apple announced two new smartwatches: the Apple Watch Series 6 and the Apple Watch SE, the latter being a more affordable version of the Series 6. The Apple Watch Series 6 will start at $399. The Apple Watch SE will cost $279. Apple will continue to sell the Series 3 at the same price of $199.
The Apple Watch Series 6 looks almost identical to the Series 5, but it comes in several new colors, including graphite, blue, red and gold steel. The Series 6 also packs a bunch of hardware updates, including a brand-new blood oxygen sensor. The new blood oxygen sensor on the Apple Watch Series 6 takes readings every 15 seconds.
The Apple Watch SE, meanwhile, looks basically identical to the Series 6. The SE has most of the same sensors as the Series 6, including its gyroscope, compass, altimeter and fall detection sensor. (There was no mention of a Sp02 sensor, however.) The SE will use an S5 chip, which Apple claims will help it run twice as fast as the Series 3.
AppleApple announced a few other things to go with its two new smartwatches. First, it announced a new single-loop strap — no buckles or adjustment straps — that it’s calling “Single Loop.” There will be silicone and braided versions of this new strap. Apple will also no longer include the USB power adapter with the Apple Watch. Finally, Apple announced Fitness+, a new subscription service that gives subscribers access to various virtual fitness classes (similar to Peloton).
