Google “best presentation clickers” — simple devices that remotely advance slides in programs like Microsoft Powerpoint, Keynote, Prezi, Google Slides, and so on — and you’ll likely find Logitech’s R800 clicker tops your results. Now, for the first time in eight years, Logitech is releasing a new sleek clicker, with a bunch of new features, which the brand is claiming could help you become a better public speaker. Meet the Spotlight.
The new clicker gets its name from its advanced pointer technology that allows presenters to put a “spotlight” on certain parts of slide; it’s basically a much better laser pointer. The feature can also magnify certain areas of the screen. The remote has a built-in stabilizer, so your spotlight won’t shake even if your hand is (because presentations are nerve-wracking).
Spotlight comes with a couple other neat tricks. It can pause and play embedded videos, and it can be programed with vibration alerts to notify you that it’s time to wrap up your presentation or go into a Q&A. The clicker works with USB Type-A and doesn’t require any pairing — just plug the receiver into your Windows or Mac OS device. It charges, however, via USB Type-C. A one-minute charge gives it three hours of battery life.
Like other clickers, Spotlight is meant to keep presenters engaged with their audiences, instead of them worrying about the time, worrying about walking back to their computer to change slides, or worrying about moving their mouse to different parts of the screen. The clicker can also be made visible for people on video conferences, so it’s not only useful for in-person conferences. It probably won’t help you become a better public speaker overnight, but it is a much more refined version of what already exists on the market, which is helpful.
The Logitech Spotlight Presentation Remote is available today from Logitech and Apple. It’s suggested retail price of $130.
