Apple has a reputation for looking forward to places nobody has yet imagined. But the tech company’s newest product is dedicated to the past. Designed by Apple in California examines 20 years of innovation through 450 pages of photographs. Shot by Andrew Zuckerman, the photos examine and detail Apple’s design process and display finished products in a minimal, clean look characteristic of the products themselves, starting with the 1998 iMac and culminating with 2015’s Apple Pencil.

Like any Apple product, every detail has been addressed in the development of the book, which took place over eight years. The linen-bound volume, published by Apple itself, comes in two sizes and is printed on specially milled, custom-dyed paper with gilded silver edges. Designed by Apple in California is dedicated to the memory of Steve Jobs, and his idea of “genuinely trying to make something great for humanity.”
