15 Ski and Snowboard Instagram Accounts to Follow this Winter

For most of us, ski season is four months long. Five if we’re lucky. Two if we’re near Lake Tahoe. But for professional skiers and snowboarders, and the photographers who tail them, the powder season never ends. From November to April, they’re heli-skiing in British Columbia or skiing above the tree line in Switzerland. When May commences, they flock down to the Southern Hemisphere and hit The Remarkables in New Zealand.

So if you have the no-snow blues, all you have to do is open Instagram and marvel at the seemingly endless powder days of these winter gypsies. Some of their photos have graced the covers of Powder Magazine and TransWorld SNOWboarding Magazine. Others are Olympic medalists and X-Games victors who know how to take a beautiful photo. And taken together, these Instagram accounts can either fill you with powder envy or inspire you to do something about making the best winter vacation of your life a reality.

Forrest Shearer

A California native and current Utah resident, Shearer grew up surfing and snowboarding. Today he’s a Patagonia and Jones Snowboard athlete. Most of his posts are of snowboarding in the backcountry.

Marco Grilc

Marko Grilc is a professional freestyle snowboarder who grew up shredding the slopes in Austria and in his native Slovenia. Today, he’s a Burton and Red Bull sponsored athlete. His Instagram feed is a confluence of intimate moments and some pretty insane snowboarding shots.

Mark Sollors

Having grown up skiing Whistler Blackcomb, Sollors developed a passion for both backcountry and hitting the rails at the terrain parks. But this professional snowboarder’s Instagram isn’t just filled with powder — he also golfs, hikes and wakeboards, and captures some pretty picturesque travel shots along the way.

Frode Sandbech

Sandbech is a professional travel and extreme sports photographer who works for TransWorld SNOWboarding Magazine. His photos range from magnificent Norwegian sunsets to snowboarders launching off jumps in Fonna Snow Park.

Robin O’Neill

O’Neil is a professional sports and outdoors photographer. When there’s snow on the ground, she’s shooting pristine backcountry ski photos. In the summers, it’s mountain biking. But since she’s based out of British Columbia (specifically Whistler), it’s mostly the former.

Liam Doran

If you love the outdoors, and not just skiing, follow Doran. He’s a professional photographer whose work has appeared in a number of publications, including Powder. He’s based in Colorado, so expect shots of fly-fishing, mountain biking and (obviously) powder skiing.

Ryan Creary

Creary’s work has appeared in Dirt Rag, Ski Canada and Powder. He still captures most of his photos on 35mm film.

Mason Mashon

Whistler is arguably the outdoor/adventure capital of North America, and Mashon has spent most of his life there. He shoots photos of people surfing, mountain biking (he’s also a professional mountain biker), snowboarding and just about everything else in the great outdoors.

Mattias Fredriksson

Fredriksson likes to photograph “quiet alpine moments, loud, screaming action, and creative portraiture” of backcountry skiing and biking. His work has appeared in Powder Magazine, SBC Skier and Bike Magazine, who even gave him the “Photo of the Year” award in 2010.

Mike Yoshida

Yoshida is an associate photo editor for Snowboarder Magazine. His Instagram feed is a compilation of artistic black-and-white profiles, snow-focused product shots and landscapes of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.

Enni Rukajarvi

Rukajarvi is Finnish professional snowboarder who travels the world. To date, she has Olympic and X-Games medals. And she takes some drop-dead-gorgeous photos of her travels.

Colin Adair

In the past 10 years, Adair has worked as a photographer for Red Bull, Burton Snowboards and ESPN. He captures mostly snowboarders, either catching big air or bombing through glades; but his Instagram is also populated with lifestyle and landscape shots.

Rob Heule

The Instagram account of Heule, a professional skier, is unique. From skiing topless in Switzerland to whitewater rafting in Canada, it seems that he’s always on the move — and doing something wild outside. Plus, he has a wicked mustache.

Kelly Clark

Clark is one of the best woman snowboarders in the world. She’s won several Olympic medals, including the gold in women’s half-pipe at the 2002 games, along with a handful of Winter X-Games golds. Her Instagram documents her travels.

Gabe L’Heureux

L’Heureux is another professional photographer who has worked with seemingly everyone in the winter sports and outdoors industry, including Vail Resorts, Burton Snowboards, Oakley and Red Bull. But his Instagram feels like the opposite of commercial. Instead, it’s filled with long-exposures and portraits.
