Home theater enthusiasts can finally stop complaining about needing multiple components for all their disc-based media. That’s because Denon has finally released the DVD-A1UD universal disc player. It’s called universal because, along with playing Blu-ray and up converting DVDs, the device is also compatible with the more obscure forms of disc-based media loved by audiophiles, such as Super Audio CD’s (SACD) and DVD audio.

Don’t think that the DVD-A1UD’s “take on all comers” attitude is the only trick up its sleeve. Rest assured, a price tag of $3,800 also gets you the professional grade audio and video quality your premium home theater craves, as well as two HDMI outputs so you can switch the signal between your television and you projector, depending on your needs.

Sadly, you U.S. based home theater ballers will have to wait until February to get the DVD-A1UD in your component rack, as it’s currently only available in Japan. If you’re impatient like us though, we can’t fault you for calling up your friends over there just in case.

Editor’s Note: All lust aside, we’re still curious to see what the folks over at Oppo have in the works before taking the plunge. When we find out, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Cost: $3,800 (Available February 2009)
