In 2023, Tudor unveiled its Black Bay 54, the most compact version of its iconic dive watch. It could not have come at a better time, as dive watches are perennially popular (and don’t appear to be slowing down), but the larger case sizes were well on their way out of vogue.

Today, that same watch has been given a striking summertime refresh in the Tudor Black Bay 54 Lagoon Blue. It might just be the best this relatively new watch has looked so far.

Although the dial color is called Lagoon Blue, it looks like an icier version of the iconic Tiffany Blue.

Breakfast at Tiffa— I mean, the Lagoon

The most obvious feature of this new version is the dial color. Tudor calls it “Lagoon Blue,” but it almost looks like an icier Tiffany Blue (although that’s trademarked, so they can’t legally use it without paying for licensing).

At a distance, it’s a striking light blue color that resembles a tropical lagoon’s clear waters, hence the name. But when you get a bit closer, you’ll see it’s not a simple flat color; it has a slight texture that gives it depth and character, helping it pop even more.

But that’s hardly the only stylistic change with this new take on the Black Bay 54. The bezel is also unusual because it’s bare metal with subtle etched markings. Not only does this allow the dial color to serve as the focal point, but it adds a layer of delicate refinement that’s unusual for the brand.

Pair that with the watch’s smaller, more wearable proportions, and you’ve got a dive watch that toes the line between a sporty, summertime watch and something a bit dressier and more sophisticated.

Not just a pretty face

Obviously, this watch’s stunning good looks are the star of the show, but that doesn’t mean the rest has been phoned in. It is still a Tudor Black Bay, one of the best divers of all time.

It’s fitted with a COSC-certified Calibre MT5400 automatic movement with a 70-hour power reserve. Its 37mm case is polished stainless steel. As noted on the dial, it’s waterproof to 200 meters (or 660 ft) — despite its dress watch-like looks, it is a genuine diver.

Speaking further, its bezel is a unidirectional rotating dive timer (although it lacks the traditional minute graduations from the 0 to 10 positions), which is also stainless steel. Plus, it has a matching stainless steel five-link bracelet. And, of course, it has a sapphire crystal.

Okay, so you might not actually take it diving, even if you could. But knowing this watch offers style and substance will only further its desirability. Expect this watch to be a big hit.
