When shopping for outdoor-ready camping and hiking bags, folks tend to gravitate toward rugged materials. That makes sense, as the uncivilized world can be unpredictable and sometimes downright dangerous in its weather, terrain and more.

However, the civilized world isn’t exactly all sunshine and rainbows, either. So when The North Face quietly dropped a collection of new EDC bags, the brand decided to impart one of its most rugged exterior fabrics to the new collection.

Thus, the five EDC bags in The North Face’s Base Camp collection were born.

Outdoor-ready, city-friendly

The five EDC bags in The North Face’s Base Camp collection vary in styling, size, carry style and more. However, they all have one core similarity: they all boast similar exterior fabrics.

Three of the bags — the sling, the messenger and the backpack — all boast rugged TPU-laminated 600D polyester. The other two — the tote pack and mini bag — are even more durable with 1000D polyester with a PVC coating.

These packs can handle everything your travels may entail, whether that’s a simple daily commute or some rigorous cross-country travel.

Similarly, the first three have 840D recycled ballistic nylon boots with non-PFC DWR coatings, while the others have 1680D ballistic nylon boots with the same non-PFC DWR coatings. This means that they’re incredibly durable and weather-resistant.

Because they’re built to the same standards and with the same materials as The North Face’s outdoor-focused Base Camp adventure bags, these packs can handle everything your travels may entail, whether that’s a simple daily commute or some rigorous cross-country travel.

Many of these EDC bags also share tactical influences, as can be seen in these bags’ modular external webbing.

Now you know your EDCs

Ruggedizing the exterior, while exciting, isn’t good enough to make for solid everyday carry packs. Thankfully, it appears The North Face is deeply aware of this. That’s why they equipped these bags with plenty of other EDC-friendly features.

The Base Camp Daypack, for instance, has an external water bottle sleeve and MOLLE-style external webbing for additional attachments, as expected in an outdoor pack. However, it also has an internal, separately accessible, zippered laptop pouch.

The Base Camp Tote Pack is similarly appointed, sporting a separate laptop pouch and a spacious main compartment. This bag also offers three carry styles: over-the-shoulder, suitcase and backpack straps. Furthermore, its zip-top is an all-weather improvement on other totes with flaps or cinches.

Even one of the smallest bags, the Lumbar Pack, has an internal keychain attachment and various organizational pouches inside. These bags aren’t just tough; they’re also capable of handling (and protecting) all your daily gear.
