In case you’re unfamiliar, Nottingham, England-based menswear brand Universal Works draws inspiration from 20th-century workwear, vintage sportswear and military uniforms, thus creating a far-reaching catalog that works surprisingly seamlessly together. The mix is a common cocktail of reference points for most modern brands, but Universal Works designer (and co-founder) David Keyte adds personal touches to every piece. It makes the garments feel more authentic.

Case in point? The Universal Works Bakers Jacket, which is purely an adaptation of a chore coat, but built to the specifications of his father, who was a baker.

When the brand collaborates, this authenticity is carried over. The resulting products are equal parts both parties. For example, this new run of camo sneakers, done in collaboration with Novesta, is Universal Works’ 8th co-branded collection with the Slovakian company. But the repetition isn’t rooted in replicating a successful formula (although all of them have sold out fast).

“The Universal Works and Novesta relationship started back in 2015 after the brand supplied footwear for the Universal Works Spring/Summer 2016 ’Not Another Catwalk’ presentation,” a press release reads. “The partnership is based on good product, good people and a genuine coming together of the like-minded.”

The four-part collection includes two Star Dribble Hi Tops and two Star Master Low Tops, each in two different camo patterns: an earthy olive and a sleek, silver-ish ecru.
