An iconic Jodhpur style.

Although Canadian bootmaker Viberg has been producing footwear since 1931, it’s hardly stuck in its ways. The brand consistently adds new styles to its catalog. The latest addition is an updated Jodhpur ankle boot made from CF Stead suede. This distinct silhouette is a departure from Viberg’s iconic lace-up Service Boots and features a two-piece upper and buckled ankle strap.

The Jodhpur boot emerged around the same time Viberg was founded and was worn by polo players in India in the ‘20s. Though designed for riding, the style became a casual wardrobe favorite within the decade and was sold at Saks Fifth Avenue in 1927. In more recent years, the style was championed by designer Hedi Slimane during his tenure at Parisian fashion house Saint Laurent.

Viberg’s new version of the Jodhpur boot features Goodyear welt construction, a brass buckle, a dovetail heel and a leather sole. Available in half sizes from 6 to 12, it retails for $760 and is one of the more expensive boots Viberg makes. If you’re in the market for a boot with a slim silhouette and want a tasteful alternative to the increasingly ubiquitous Chelsea boot, this is a well-made option with a unique history.
