The beautiful ugliness of the ’80s dad sneaker is trendy right now, so there’s no shortage of shoemakers currently riffing on that classic silhouette. And one of the brands doing it best is M.Gemi. This week, the Italian-made brand released the Calcio, a lightweight suede shoe with a super grippy St. Moritz sole. (The name comes from their lower-profile lugs, which give you similar grip to a commando sole with a lower overall mass.) It might feel a little pricey at $298, but the materials and construction used here are worth it.

The sneakers’ perforated panels mean they won’t weigh you down through the dog days of summer, and they’re cut from a material that lots of guys turn to in fall and spring. So you might find yourself wanting to wear this pair long after this trend has fallen by the wayside.
