Adidas announced today that its first 3D printed sneaker, the 3D Runner, will be available starting on December 15 at the Adidas flagship store in New York. Speculation about when the revolutionary shoes would launch has buzzed ever since the brand’s announcement back in October of 2015. Anticipation was amped up in August of 2016 when a number of Olympic athletes, including Allison Schmitt and Mariana Pajon, were given pairs as gifts.
The sleek shoe features a 3D printed outsole and a midsole of varying density (to optimize performance), a 3D-printed heel counter integrated into the midsole (avoiding any type of gluing) and a black Primeknit upper for the guaranteed best fit. This sneaker is just the start of the brand’s plans for 3D printing; the future includes plans for custom shoes based on each wearer’s foot, running style and performance needs.
3D printing is the way of the future, so join the revolution. Starting on December 13, customers can reserve a pair of 3D runners for $333 on the Adidas Confirmed app. It’s a small price to pay for the most anticipated sneakers of the year.
