Timex’s Q series of affordable reissue and vintage-inspired watches has been a huge hit. While I’d stop short of saying it “saved” the brand, I feel confident it brought Timex back into relevance.

The brand couldn’t have picked a better watch to take the next big leap in the series. The Q Timex 1982 Ana-Digi Reissue brings Timex’s retro series into the digital age.

But it’s not just a simple redux. It also has some sneaky modern functionality.

Let’s get digital

This modernized reissue is a pretty faithful recreation of the original watch on which it’s based. All the details, from the boxy analog dial to the markings beside the digital display, have returned. Even the integrated bracelet looks nearly identical.

This watch appears to be a little smaller at 33mm, which serves modern tastes better than the larger 38mm versions of yesteryear. However, all the crucial details — even the placement of the pushers — remain steadfast.

It’s worth noting that the Quartz Analog Digital movement inside the watch isn’t deadstock. That means they’re making new modern versions to put inside this watch.

Hopefully, they’re built to the same standards (or better) as the original quartz movements in these watches, which are still reliable today. There’s little reason to worry, however, as Timex offerings are typically extremely reliable, even if they’re not swoon-worthy.

Sneaky modern functionality

Stylistically speaking, this watch is as retro-futuristic as Q series watches get. However, it has some handy features that help elevate it to modernity.

Its more basic features include a programmable alarm, a date function and even a chronograph complication. However, it also has dual time zone tracking.

It’s a watch that knows it’s just a watch and doesn’t try to do too much. There’s beauty in that.

That makes this Q Timex a sneakily clever travel-friendly watch. You can track both the time zone you’re in and the one you’re traveling to or from without having to reset your watch.

There’s also something to be said for its simplicity. It isn’t bogged down with functions you’d probably never touch. It’s a watch that knows it’s just a watch and doesn’t try to do too much. There’s beauty in that.
