Slowly but surely, the Vomero 5 has established itself as one of Nike’s most beloved sneakers.

First released in 2011 as stability-focused running shoe, the retrofuturistic silhouette re-emerged a few years back as the Swoosh’s answer to the the dad-shoe trend.

The Vomero 5’s lightweight upper and technical midsole — not to mention countless colorways — have made it one of Nike’s most wearable models. However, a slew of rugged upgrades put it at an all-time high coming into fall and winter months.

Meet the brand-new, hardwearing Vomero Roam, arriving just in time for the first fall frost.

Getting technical

The fresh variant, as officially revealed by Nike, introduces in handful of all-weather features to the Vomero line.

The most noticeable of those is the shoe’s oversized rubber mudguard. It wraps around the entirety of the shoe and promises protection against wet conditions, while also adding visual contrast with the rest of the shoe.

The upper itself is constructed with what appears to be a durable ripstop fabric, elevated with mixed-leather accents including suede around the tongue and toe-box.

Finally, closed seams, a thermal lining, high-abrasion-rubber outsole and reflective lace toggles complete the technical makeover.
