The Pegasus Premium has an identity crises.

On the one hand, it’s arguably Nike’s coolest daily trainer, or at least its most impressive: the shoe packs three distinct technologies (ZoomX, ReactX and Air Zoom) into a single, responsive shoe.

It’s fun to run in and even more fun to brag about.

But the weight (11.5 ounces for a US men’s 10), price ($210) and, frankly, its rather attractive disposition have prompted a debate among runners as to whether or not the shoe should be seen as a glorified lifestyle sneaker.

For better or worse, a new colorway will do little to settle it.

White heat

The latest Pegasus Premium swaps out the gray and orange launch colors for a sleek white upper that positions the shoe as the best white sneaker in Nike’s entire catalog.

To be clear, the shoe remains as technical as ever, with a standard-setting upper that combines lightweight engineered mesh with various overlays for stability and durability.

The full-length Air Zoom unit, sandwiched in-between two of Nike’s best foams, also retains its status as the shoe’s halo feature. Only here, it takes on a tonal platinum-blue hue in lieu of bright neon orange, as seen on the handful colorways to date.

In other words, the shoe is still designed for serious runners racking up serious mileage. But it would look even less out of place matched with a hoodie and fresh pair of slacks.
