They grow up fast, don’t they?

Last year, few sneakerheads had even heard of the Field General — an obscure reference plucked from the depths of Nike’s back catalog.

But nearly two dozen colorways later, the ’80s-era model has quietly emerged as one of the brand’s most consistent retro reissues.

A new variant on the way — which Nike has dubbed “Parachute Beige” — only underscores its range.

From streets to sand

Unlike most other versions of the Field General to date, “Parachute Beige” sees the design take on a monochromatic getup that stands apart with its tonal upper, logo and midsole.

What’s more, Nike went with a palette that places the shoe more in desert boot or Clarks Wallabees territory than anything resembling the Adidas Samba — its closest competitor from across the aisle.

This is not the first time Nike has equipped the Field General with a color seemingly borne from military heritage. Released in March, “Light Army” also pulled a similar thread.

However, unlike that release, “Parachute Beige” showcases a mixed upper that reserves suede for the paneling, with smooth leather serving as the base material.

The midsole, too, is different here, eschewing the semi-translucent rubber on “Light Army” for an opaque beige that matches the rest of the shoe for a uniform effect.

Of course, “Parachute Beige” still features the same nubby outsole found on all Field Generals, including the first ones worn by NFL quarterbacks in the late ’80s.
