Nike’s Most Samba-Like Shoe Just Got Even More Samba

The Super Bowl may be over. But Nike’s football-inspired sneaker is just warming up.

Even in the offseason, Nike’s retro football sneaker looks to call the shots.

The Field General, recently reissued at the height of peak Adidas Samba hype, just surfaced in a new black-and-white colorway that goes toe-to-toe with the Samba’s most iconic color scheme.

Suede and ballistic nylon make the upper, both colored black for high-contrast look against the shoe’s white-leather Swoosh.

The waffle sole is also black, staying true to the vintage Field General while giving it some visual distinction to the Samba’s brown-rubber gum sole.

Nike has given the Field General myriad colorways since reissuing the sneaker in 2024, however, this is the first to feature a black-and-white upper on top of the original black sole.

True to the original

Though Nike has experimented with myriad color combinations since the Field General came back into the picture early last year, this release marks the first time that black and white has featured with the original dark sole.

Black isn’t just the traditional choice for this specific Nike. It’s the practical one, too, hiding wear and tear better than white or brown alternatives.

The first Field General, worn by former NFL stars such as Archie Manning and Dan Fouts during competition, initially debuted with a white-and-red upper that sat on top of a black sole to hide wear and tear.

Today, preserved as part of a reissue, the black sole gives the shoe a touch of ruggedness, while keeping it authentic to the Field General of yesteryear.

Pricing and availability

The Nike Field General “Black White” is available now for $100.

In more heritage reissues, Nike also gave the classic Killshot 2 a brown-on-brown colorway that’s all but begging for a personal touch of patina.
