Hoka’s Latest Collab Brings Stunning Street Style to an Iconic Sneaker

Teaming up with LA-based creative house and lifestyle brand Supervsn results in some very special Clifton One9s.

For as many sneakers as it releases, Hoka takes the utmost care with its collaborations.

That’s one thing I learned speaking with Thomas Cykana, the brand’s senior director of global collaborations, earlier this month

The three new Clifton One9 colorways include Mantis Green, a nomenclature that makes this photo all the more fitting.

Perhaps ironically, this conscientiousness rarely results in predictable teamups but more often ones that only make sense in retrospect.

Which brings me to the latest Hoka news: a partnership with West Coast neighbors Supervsn on three trippy treatments of the technically terrific Clifton One9 — including one that will be incredibly rare.

California love

For those unfamiliar, Suprvsn is an LA-based creative house and lifestyle brand that aims to shape culture and empower communities with considered design, storytelling and partnerships.

Its first step into footwear reshapes the Hoka sneaker through the lens of (are you sitting down?) Inner Space Exploration, founder Gavin Mathieu’s term for introspection-based astro futurism.

Only 99 pairs of the Neon Gold colorway will be released, making it the rarest Hoka ever.

“Innerspace exploration is about tuning out the noise and tuning into yourself,” Mathieu explains. “No hype, no cosigns — just an honest message, good design, and an incredibly comfortable shoe.”

Toward that end, the best decision the two parties may have been starting with the Clifton One9.

As you can see here, the Clifton One9 is distinguished by a very streamlined tongue.

Introduced late last year, the shoe updates the super-popular and iconic Clifton with a TPU film overlay on top of the open-hole mesh upper, a slim, race-ready tongue, Hoka’s finest foam and a 32mm stack height.

With this collaboration, that already compelling package gets three eye-popping yet elegant colorways: Mantis Green, Ice Grey and Neon Gold (which will get a very limited run of 99 pairs, making it the rarest Hoka ever made).

Wider vision

Even beyond the extreme exclusiveness of that third pair, what makes release unique is the larger purpose accompanying it.

“This collaboration resonates with us deeply because it’s built on shared values, prioritizing substance over hype and staying true to our creative paths,” says Cykana.

As seen on the Ice Grey colorway, the stack height is generous: at 32mm, it’s 3mm taller than the classic Clifton.

“Gavin captures it perfectly when he talks about two creative forces coming together with a shared vision. That’s what makes something super.”

As part of the launch, Hoka will donate $25,000 to The STUDIO Foundation, a Supervsn-powered mentorship program meant to educate, empower and usher in the next generation of creative visionaries and entrepreneurs.

The collection will debut on July 26 at Supervsn’s flagship LA location, complete with a pop-up experience where the public can participate in guided mindfulness workshops with licensed wellness professionals.

This workshop will also be offered to underrepresented creatives from Los Angeles and Inglewood for free every Sunday in August.

Those not located near LA should mark their calendars for July 31. That’s when the shoes will drop on hoka.com and supervsn.com, with all styles retailing for $165.
