The gear we can’t live without.

Editor’s Note: It’s pretty clear that we’re passionate about gear. And with this series, we want to share with you our own personal favorite pieces. Over the next few months, we’ll bring you our staff’s 10 personal favorites — goods we personally own and use. The selection will run the gamut, from heirloom pieces to practical gear that can be easily procured. Last but not least, each will share one “holy grail” item that still remains the stuff of dreams, out of reach, but hopefully only temporarily so.

One of many perks of being a GP staffer is travel. And, as an in-house photo/video guy, I get to travel quite a bit. But that also means taking good care of myself on the road. This particular work requirement made me consider the content of my dopp kit more thoughtfully. So for my favorites, I decided to share a few essential items in my dopp kit.

Hard Graft Refresh Dopp Kit

It’s an unusual design, but very functional. I’ve found the upright form-factor makes it easier to access what’s inside.

Marvis Toothbrush

Great, and they are very #lifestyle.

Marvis Toothpaste

For that fresh, minty breath.

Harry’s Lip Balm

It’s not sticky or shiny and it keeps my lips healthy.

Baxter of California Pomades

These are the only products I use for my hair. They work well and keep their hold all day long, with a natural look. They can also be mixed to achieve many different styles. I usually stick to Clay and Hard Water on the road, and keep Soft Water and Hard Cream in rotation at home.

Harry’s Daily Face Lotion SPF 15

Regardless of what you might think or say about dudes who use face lotion, the truth is that you need to take care of your skin. Harry’s keeps my skin hydrated without leaving residue. If you don’t use face cream regularly or at all, I high recommend you start with this stuff.

The Winston by Harry’s

Personally, I don’t think Harry’s blades are any better or worse than Gillette’s or Schick’s. But I stick with them because they are affordable and their Shave Plan conveniently sends replacement blades to my door.

Fulton & Roark Shaving Cream

It hydrates and protects my skin from a very damaging activity called shaving.

Baxter Deodorant

Citrus and herbal musk-scented deodorant smells really great; since it’s clear, it doesn’t stain my clothes. And, for what it’s worth, I’ve found women love it.

Aesop Mouthwash

Worth every penny. My mouth tastes and smells like luxury every time I rinse with it.

Daneson SingleMalt Toothpicks

I know it sounds ridiculous, but these are the best-tasting toothpicks I’ve ever used.

The Grail

Ghurka Vintage Kitsack No. 29

Sure, I could list a Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole or 1968 Porsche 911 as my “grail” item. But we are talking about dopp kits, and this is the Lambo of that category.
