G-Shock watches are generally not subtle. Still, the brand’s chunky designs, known for their extreme durability, have become more normalized and commonplace.
Besides color palette and material swaps, the brand has not launched a truly jaw-dropping new model in years. But the wait has finally ended with the launch of the G-Shock GA-V01.

Y2K all the way
Although the watch isn’t transparent, this G-Shock clearly harkens to the now retro-futuristic styling of the late ’90s and early 2000s, marked by a bulbous resin case and integrated rubber strap.
That striking design includes some design quirks unique to the GA-V01. For instance, the dial’s hour markers are integrated into the bezel and lie outside the watch’s mineral glass — instead of under it, as is traditional.
Furthermore, the sub-dial duo is integrated into a single seamless unit and boasts a butterfly-like shape. This shape is referred to on G-Shock China as “Cool Eyes,” likely due to its similarity to cartoon character conjoined eye designs, like Sonic the Hedgehog’s.
