Filson has a long history of making excellent bags, but none have quite the backstory of the Filson Duffel Backpack Hybrid. And now it’s officially on sale at Huckberry while supplies last.

Here’s what you need to know about it.

As our managing editor, Jack Seemer, documented last August, Jeremy White, an editor at Wired, once dubbed it the “greatest bag ever made.” Full stop. Not even close.

Then Filson decided to retire it.

Luckily for travel fans everywhere, Rhyne Simpson, a merchandise manager at Huckberry, remembered how well the bag sold back in the day and pleaded with Filson to bring back the exact same bag as a Huckberry exclusive.

What Makes It Special?

The bag developed a cult following for several reasons. One was its ability to balance durability with weight. It also boasts three ways to carry it, including integrated backpack straps. At 46 liters, it’s big enough to haul a day or two’s worth of clothes. It includes a padded pocket capable of holding a 15-inch laptop, plus two outside pockets for a pair of shoes or clothes.

“You can kind of pack it however you want,” Simpson said. “You can do all your packing cubes and you’ve got a little bit of organization in there, but it’s just totally different from any other travel bag.”
