Few wardrobe staples baffle the general public quite like hoodies. The sweatshirt has sparked everything from Reddit threads in r/Adulting asking, “Are we allowed to wear hoodies now?” to the Yale Student Newspaper claiming 7 Reasons Why Hoodies Won’t Go Out of Fashion Anytime Soon.

Part of the confusion is clearly generational. Americans have been dressing more casually for nearly two decades now, even in the office, thanks in large part to Silicon Valley’s rise in power and influence. Some people still need to catch up.

But even if their status among tech founders, who helped make them a core part of the stealth wealth wardrobe, is waning these days, there’s no shortage of premium hoodies right now for those who want them.

The Luxe Tech Hoodie Is as Clean as Can Be

Case in point: Todd Snyder just released a new fall and winter collection on behalf of Woolrich filled with interesting takes on cold-weather classics. Yet, the one item I kept coming back to was a simple hoodie.

“Buttery” is the word that came to mind amongst our team while discussing the new Todd Snyder x Woolrich Luxe Tech Hoodie.

It’s tough to pinpoint why it jumps out exactly. Todd Snyder’s site states that 80s and 90s silhouettes inspire the cut, so a nostalgic appeal could be in play.

The drawstring-free hood and reinforced stitching on the Kangaroo pocket edges certainly create a clean cut. The Italian fabric, comprised of 71% cotton and 29% polyester, is available in a nice selection of modern neutral colors like black, camel, and cream, just enhance the upscale vibe.

Threading the Needle Between Basic and Luxury

If you’re looking for a catch here, we see two. For many, paying $298 for such a casual wardrobe staple will be a dealbreaker, and that’s fair.

But from our vantage point, witnessing the rise of “haute hoodies” costing $800 or more from brands like Brunello Cuccinelli, Moncler, Tom Ford, and others, the Luxe Tech Hoodie feels pretty reasonable by comparison. It also looks much nicer.

The other call-out relates to cleaning. According to Todd Snyder’s site, the hoodie should be dry cleaned or hand washed, even if your machine claims to offer a hand wash setting. This isn’t exactly a strange demand, though, for a garment containing so much polyester. Many people wind up throwing them in the washing machines anyway, despite what the label says.
