The All Star is a lot of things: iconic, affordable, versatile. You can now add “waterproof” to the list.
Converse took the popular Chuck 70s, an already more durable version of the brand’s signature model, and gave it a water-repellent and breathable coating. What’s more, it’s virtually invisible to the eye.
The model is called the Converse All Star WP, and it will be exclusive to the Japanese market when it releases on January 28.

Chuck 70s with a twist
From the description offered online, it appears that the All Star WP uses the same 12-ounce canvas as the Chuck 70, however, it’s treated with a covert DWR coating. The words “Waterproof & Breathable,” printed on the inside of the tongue, are the only visual cue that this pair of All Stars boasts the technical feature.

The shoe comes in both high top and low top variants, with the same heavy vulcanized rubber foxing, metal eyelets and vents as the Chuck 70s. It also features the React 2.0 insole that have made the retro reissue so popular, however, it’s missing some of stitching found on the Chuck 70.
