If there was a Mount Rushmore of jackets, the Bedale would almost certainly be on it — assuming, of course, we’re accepting overseas candidates.
Barbour introduced the iconic British jacket in 1980, three years before the equally famous Beaufort — a shorter length being its primary difference, though vents, rib cuffs and an internal pocket also separate the two designs.
While little has changed on the original Bedale over the last 44 years, the classic jacket just received an epic refresh with the help of another British brand, Baracuta, whose own designs rival Barbour’s in terms of fandom and provenance.
Barbour x Baracuta Oversized Casual Bedale
The newly released Oversized Casual Bedale is a mash-up of the Bedale and G9, made famous by actors such as James Dean and, more recently, Daniel Craig.

The length of the jacket follows after the former, and it falls just barely below the waist, hinting at the original’s intended purpose as an equestrian jacket. Elements such as rear vents, hand-warmer pockets and a corduroy-lined collar also ground it in the Bedale’s established sandbox.
