Samba. Superstar. Stan Smith. Jabbar?

Plenty of sneakers deserve to join the first three on Adidas’s Mount Rushmore of old-school classics. The NBA’s first signature shoe, first worn in 1970 by the “The Tower from Power,” may be the one to beat them out.

Left dormant for a decade, the Jabbar resurfaced in 2024 with an inline reissue that rises the ranks with every new rendition, including those by way of the Three Stripes’s collaboration with fashion designer Willy Chavarria.

The limited-edition Chavarria Jabbar Dress reimagines the evergreen sneaker as an upscaled dress shoe, complete with enhanced leather, waxed laces and a sculpted toe box that’s more pointed than the original.

This variant also diverges from the classic Jabbar with a wordmark on the lateral side of each shoe. Interestingly, one reads “Kareem” while the others reads “Willy.”

Availability and pricing

Though this take on the burgeoning classic doesn’t slot into Adidas’s premier “Made in Germany” collection, it certainly costs the part.

The Chavarria Jabbar Dress costs $250 and comes in two low-top colorways, white and blue and white and black — the latter distinguishing itself with a fold-over tongue.
