Like many fashion brands, Italian luxury fashion house Prada has collaborated with a host of influential artists. For its fall/winter 2012 season, Willem Dafoe, Gary Oldman, Garrett Hedlund and Jamie Bell all graced the campaign and the catwalk. This time, groundbreaking R&B artist Frank Ocean gets his turn.
Photographed by David Sims with creative direction by Ferdinando Verdi, the spring/summer 2020 collection stars Ocean with film director Nicolas Winding Refn and actor Austin Butler in black-and-white images juxtaposed with color photographs and brief video spots. Prada also turns its logo on its side, transforming it into an acronym with abstract word sets describing the brand’s multifaceted and fluid identity.
Prada explains, “An intentional display of duality, multiplicity, constant reinvention and renewal is a vital element of performance. Through music, in movies, on stage, creatives re-address and realign perceptions, reframing the self and their own invention.”
Ocean sports several looks including a western-inspired ‘fit with a long double breasted blazer over a striped button-down shirt and cropped chinos, finished with chunky derbies and a bolo tie as well as an head-to-toe khaki look featuring Prada’s unmistakable triangle plaque motif.
