A Hawaiian shirt once owned by President John F. Kennedy is up for auction at Guernsey’s in New York City. From the estate of long-time Kennedy financial advisor Thomas J. Walsh, the shirt is made by Hale Hawaii and is estimated to sell for between $15,000 and $20,000.
Walsh was hired in 1952 as a tax and real estate accountant for the Park Agency, Inc., the Kennedy family’s company that managed various enterprises. In December 1961, he visited the 35th President in Palm Beach to discuss the charitable distribution of JFK’s presidential salary, among other financial matters. During this meeting, Kennedy invited Walsh to an informal poolside meeting, and, as Walsh didn’t have suitable casual attire, lent him the Hawaiian shirt now offered for auction. The shirt label includes a name tag that reads “John F. Kennedy.”
This unreserved live auction will take place on February 20 at noon EST. At the time of publishing, the shirt already had two bids, 37 watchers and a price of $3,750.
