Canada Goose partnered with Inuit seamstresses to create a one-of-a-kind parka collection dubbed Project Atigi. Named after the Inuit word for parka, this social entrepreneurship project showcases the traditions, skills and individual tastes of 14 expert seamstresses from nine communities across four Inuit regions (Inuvialuit, Nunatsiavut, Nunavut and Nunavik).
Each woman was given an identical kit of fixings, trims, various colors of ArcticTech fabric and fur (for optional inclusion). From these materials, they created their own patterns and embellishments and crafted the parkas in their homes. The range of finished products are functional, beautiful and truly diverse. It includes anoraks, parkas and traditional amauti-style jackets for men, women and children.
Project Atigi is available in early February online and all proceeds from the sales will benefit the Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami. If you’re looking for an incredibly unique piece of outerwear made by a talented specialist, keep an eye out for these to hit the site.
