Strike Gold, the aficionado-level Japanese denim brand, just released a pair of heavyweight jeans made with completely new denim. The 5004 jeans are cut from loomstate 15.5-ounce unsanforized denim made of pure indigo warp and weft threads. Because of the abrasive nature of loomstate denim, these double-indigo jeans will show age faster than standard jeans, developing a high-contrast fade with normal wear.

Made in Okayama, the 5004 comes in both slim-tapered and straight-tapered silhouettes, both of which feature a medium rise. Strike Gold has gone to great lengths to ensure these jeans age gracefully. The brand had custom rivets made with iron male parts and copper female parts. Over time, the male pieces will rust over and the female pieces will darken and leaf, producing well-rounded aging patterns on the rivets.

Because of this hyper-focus on the smallest details, these jeans retail for $330. They are available in sizes 29 to 34, 36 and 38, and come with a standard button fly and five-pocket design. If you consider yourself a denim connoisseur and don’t own a pair of Strike Gold jeans, these should be at the top of your list.
