Oakland-based retailer Standard and Strange collaborated with outerwear specialist Simmons Bilt on a new horsehide jacket. Made in Scotland, the jacket has a cafe-racer silhouette with a proper collar and features Riri zippers, two hand pockets, shoulder gussets and zippered wrist closures. Cut from 1.2mm Italian horsehide, the jacket is available in both black and natural colorways, the latter of which will darken over time and develop a patina unique to the wearer. Horsehide has far more character than traditionally-used steer hide, and natural variations like marks, scars and imperfections are normal.
Available in sizes 38 to 46, this jacket fits true-to-size and costs $1,200. While that is a large sum of money to drop on a jacket, it’s definitely a smart investment. A jacket of this quality is an heirloom piece and something you can eventually pass down to your children or grandchildren.
