Brands incorporate performance fabrics into garments with varying degrees of success. In many cases when a traditional garment is given a technical makeover, the new levels of perceived comfort or durability don’t really justify the price tag. Do you need a pair of jeans woven with a material that’s stronger than steel for everyday wear? Will it really make your life that much better? Probably not.

Mission Workshop’s new performance denim shirt is different, though. The classic silhouette is cut from denim woven by the innovative textile maker Schoeller in Switzerland. The fabric has a laundry list of features: four-way stretch, breathable, water-repellent, doesn’t hold heat like most dark fabrics. It also manages to have a soft hand-feel while remaining very durable. The Deep Navy colorway and slightly textured weave don’t appear overly tech-y, and the shirt drapes like a regular denim shirt. All things you want for everyday wear.

Made in America, this is a shirt for the performance-fabric skeptics. It’s definitely an investment with a $265 price tag, but the features and wearability are first-in-class.
