Traditional menswear retailer The Armoury just released a new line of dress shoes designed by legendary bespoke Japanese shoemaker Yohei Fukuda. The collection is made up of three styles — a wingtip oxford, a semi-brogue cap-toe oxford and a traditional cap-toe oxford — available in two colorways each. Made in Northampton, England, each of the styles feature Goodyear welt construction, full linings and calf-leather uppers.
All of the shoes are imitation brogues and cap toes, a style where the decorative detailing is done with stitching as opposed to using separate pieces of leather. It’s a technique that is harder to execute because it requires higher-quality hides that are largely unblemished. Because this style utilizes a single-piece leather upper, the result is a sleeker shoe that is more comfortable, and will have less-pronounced creases over its life.
With no detail overlooked, the soles of these shoes are made of high-quality oak-bark leather and feature closed-channel stitching (no seams on the bottom of the shoe). Each style costs just under $500 and is available in half sizes between UK 6 and 12. If you’re in the market for a pair of quality dress shoes, these are easily one of the best values available today.
