Sometimes, used is better than new. That’s certainly the case for Filson bags. They’re made to be used and abused and develop patina over time that tells the story of its owner’s adventures. For customers who want to jump start the process, there’s been Filson’s Restoration Department, which rejuvenates and repairs beat-up bags traded in by previous owners. Just one problem: these one-of-a-kind bags are exclusive to Filson’s flagship store in Seattle.

Here’s good news, though. Filson is taking its Restoration Department around the U.S. (and England) this summer and fall for a series of five pop-ups, each offering its own selection of 15 upcycled bags. Some were reconditioned due to weathering. Others were given a second chance thanks to cloth from donor luggage and outerwear, giving them unique stitching and color combinations. The first pop-up opened in Washington D.C. last Friday.
