The Roadie 24 is hard to beat.

Formerly Yeti’s smallest hard cooler — a superlative now owned by the Roadie 15 — the slightly larger ice box functions as both a personal item and one big enough to share.

With a vertical orientation, it’s also designed to fit in tight spaces, making it as easy to stow behind a car seat as the stern of a boat.

Meanwhile, its pair of flip latches can be operated with a single hand, underscoring its unmatched combination of agility and cold, hard utility.

But if there’s ever been a knock against Yeti’s goldilocks, do-it-all cooler, it’s the absence of a drain plug — an omission that has even led some loyal customers set on the versatile size to drill their own.

Good news: moving forward, they will no longer have to.

Yeti has at long last resolved the issue with a small redesign of the Roadie 24 that goes big on quality-of-life improvements. And yes, there’s finally a drain plug.

Plugged in

The new-and-improved Roadie 24, now available for purchase, preserves the general dimensions of its predecessor. That means it fits up to eight bottles of wine, 33 cans or 26 pounds of ice — or, the more likely scenario, some combination of the three.

But thanks to the introduction of Yet’s BestDam Drain Plug, users will no longer have to empty all of its contents when some of it melts.

Though that single addition would have likely been enough to satisfy Yeti Nation, the Roadie 24 also brings two other notable improvements to the table.

The first is a DoubleDuty Strap, as seen with the newer Roadie 15, which replaces the HeftyHauler Handle for one that’s both more ergonomic and comfortable to carry over one’s shoulder.

Secondly, the Roadie 24 is now compatible with Yeti’s Lockport, sold separately for $30.

While installation of one doesn’t exactly make the cooler bear-proof, it does protect its contents from unwanted theft, not to mention the cooler itself for carriers who want to anchor it at the campsite.
